The Most Unusual Dog Names from the Gina’s Woofs Name Library

Some dog names are classics. Luna, Sky, Bella, Nala, Max, Ruby … lovely, short and always popular.

And then there are those other names that make you smile and say to yourself: “Okay, I really have to meet this dog.”

(and the owner) 😁

In the Gina’s Woofs birthday name database, we found quite a few such special names. Some are funny, others very elegant, some are straight out of the movies, and some are so unique that there's probably little chance another dog will turn around when you call them on a walk.

Why choose an unusual name for your dog?

Unusual dog names have one big advantage: they are hard to mix up.

If you call “Luna” on a walk, several dogs may turn around. If you call “Čips”, probably far fewer will. An unusual name can also be a lovely way to show off your dog's character.

How to choose an unusual name that is still practical?

With unusual names, it's also worth thinking about everyday use.

Long names are fun, but on walks you'll probably quickly start using a shorter version. So it's a good idea for your dog to recognise the shorter version quickly too.

The best unusual name is one that is:

- clear enough to call out,
- one you truly like,
- has a personal story,
- suits your dog's character.
